Range, Charging, and Battery Life
The xDrive50e model comes with a standard 25.7-kWh battery pack, offering up to 40 miles of electric-only driving. The X5 can reach speeds of up to 84 mph using only the battery. The battery pack can be charged at home using 110-volt or 220-volt outlets, as well as at public charging stations.

Infotainment and Connectivity
Stepping into the X5's cabin reveals a striking curved display wall, spanning two-thirds of the dashboard. Behind the wheel, a 12.3-inch screen serves as a gauge display, while a larger 14.9-inch touchscreen grants access to BMW's iDrive infotainment interface. Initially launched with iDrive 8, the X5 has already received a free over-the-air update to iDrive 8.5, with further updates planned for the future. The system can also be controlled via a center-console-mounted rotary knob, providing a user-friendly experience. Standard features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, wireless smartphone charging, and a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
While the EPA has not released official fuel economy estimates for the xDrive50e plug-in hybrid, the rear-wheel drive sDrive40i and all-wheel drive xDrive40i models are rated at 23 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. The V-8–powered M60i model is expected to achieve 17 mpg city and 22 mpg highway. Real-world fuel efficiency will be further evaluated through our 75-mph highway fuel economy test route.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The X5 offers generous interior space for both the first and second rows, although the optional third row is more suitable for children. The cabin of the X5 is adorned with high-quality materials, and there are plenty of charging points for devices. Depending on the chosen options, a multitude of luxury features can be added, enhancing the overall experience. Standard features include power-adjustable front seats with driver memory, a power-adjustable steering column, heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power rear liftgate, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and customizable ambient lighting. Additional luxurious touches such as massaging seats, remote start, soft-close doors, acoustic glass, a leather dashboard, and heated front armrests and steering wheel can elevate the X5 to the level of a high-end luxury SUV, albeit with an increased cost. For those seeking exceptional audio quality, an optional Bowers & Wilkins surround-sound audio system with diamond-domed tweeters is available. When it comes to cargo space, the X5 doesn't disappoint. With the rear seats in use, it comfortably accommodates 11 carry-on suitcases, and with the rear seats folded, that number increases to 26.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The 2024 X5 is available with three distinct powertrains. The sDrive40i and xDrive40i models are equipped with a 375-horsepower turbocharged inline-six.
