BMW's vision for the i8 M 2024 | Next M Concept

The German company's new concept car reveals what the electrified future of its M Performance sports division will look like. It is the BMW Vision M NEXT, a plug-in hybrid vehicle that will serve as the basis for its upcoming launches. The i8 concept dates back to 2009, when BMW was looking for a way to achieve the best performance with minimal fuel consumption.

Inspiration
by the legendary BMW M1

The BMW Vision M NEXT is a plug-in hybrid sports car whose design is inspired by the legendary BMW M1, a classic from the 1970s. It was designed by the renowned Giugiaro.

591 horsepower
under the hood

Like its first version, the BMW i8 M will be equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain with the same combination of two separate electric motors and a gasoline engine providing all the necessary power.

To evolve its flagship technology model currently equipped with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, BMW decided that the new car would offer a turbocharged 2-liter four-cylinder. With this change, the concept car claims a total output from the two systems combined of 591 horsepower, which is far more than the 369 horsepower of the current i8.

BMW has not yet revealed many details about the battery system itself, but they have already announced an electric driving range for the Vision M Next concept that would be 100 km. Compared to the current i8's range of 30 km, we can say that BMW engineers have not skimped on technological developments to gain autonomy.

Minimalist styling

The futuristic look of the BMW Vision M NEXT is apparent in the minimalist style of its controls, its almost imperceptible air vents and its foam-covered seats, which fit perfectly and comfortably around the passengers' bodies. The concept is based on the Pod BOOST concept, with a single point of contact between the driver and the car.

The concept car has a horizontally positioned steering wheel with two small screens that extend a curved glass screen, not to mention the great BMW classic, the Head Up Display (HUD) or augmented reality screen located in the windshield.

A car with
facial recognition

Among the technologies present in this car, facial recognition will be an available option. It is not yet known if it will be standard on the vehicle or not, but thanks to this, the car unlocks its doors when the driver approaches, or if necessary there are still the touch sensors to open the doors called "butterfly".

As BMW has announced, the BMW i8 M will be marketed at the end of 2023 as a 2024 model. It will be offered in two variants, coupe and roadster, and the price range will start at more or less 160,000 dollars, although this is still variable to date.
